This TILIW will look at a different kind of history...natural history. Our guest Bill Davit, a 93 yo resident of WashMo, is an expert in his field. Bill was instrumental in promoting and re-establishing prairies in the STL area, including Shaw Nature Reserve in Gray Summit. Doors open at 6pm.

Bill was instrumental in promoting and re-establishing prairies in the STL area, including Shaw Nature Reserve in Gray Summit.
In the late 1600s, when explorers Marquette and Joliet mapped the Mississippi River, there were over 15 million acres of prairie in Missouri. St. Charles County had some too; ever hear of Dardenne Prairie? Now, there are less than 90,000 tall-grass prairies in our state.
Bill Davit had a 30 year career at Shaw nature reserve, but his formal education was geophysical engineering, and his early work took him around the world measuring the earth’s magnetic field for the U.S. Navy. Now, Bill spends more time in his own amazing backyard than travelling the globe, but as a master horticulturist, he will amuse and enlighten the TILIW audience with anecdotes and scientific information on common wild plants that grow around Augusta.
